FIELD: wind-power engineering. SUBSTANCE: vertical-axis windwheel has vertical shaft with yokes mounting on their ends vertical shaped blades with hinged shields on their outer surfaces and shield operating mechanism. Novelty is that shields are disposed in root parts of blades, rear edge of tightly fitted shield is aligned with rear edge of blade, and shield operating mechanism has lever fixed to shield, shell-mounted spring joined to lever and disposed within blade, and adjusting screw for precompressing the spring. EFFECT: reduced speed of windwheel in wide range of approach flow. 2 dwg
