METHOD OF VONVERSION OF URANIUM HEXAFLUORIDE INTO URANIUM TETRAFLUORIDE AND ANHYDROUS HYDROGEN FLUORIDE AND DEVICE FOR REALIZATION OF THIS METHOD Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

Abstract RU 2188795 C2

FIELD: processing depleted uranium hexafluoride. SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in interaction of uranium hexafluoride with hydrogen in fluorohydrogen flame. Process is performed in reactor at pressure of 540 to 720 mm Hg. Mole ratio of components UF6:F2:H2 ==1(0.12-0.36) : (1.5-3). Cathode gas may be used as reductant. Temperature of reactor walls is maintained at level of about 480 C. reaction products are cooled down through cooling the reactor walls. Uranium tetrafluoride powder is transferred to finished product receiver by means of feeding conveyer of unloading unit. Body of unloading unit is made in form of vertical oval. Hydrogen fluoride is condensed from process gases at temperature of minus 35 to minus 40 C and at minus 70 to minus 80 C. Hydrogen fluoride is additionally extracted by sodium fluoride at temperatures of 70 to 80 C and 20 to 30. Desorption of hydrogen fluoride is performed at temperature of 350 to 375 C. EFFECT: degree of conversion of uranium hexafluoride into uranium tetradluoride up to 99.5%; degree of extraction of hydrogen fluoride up to 99.6%. 11 cl, 2 dwg, 2 tbl, 1 ex
