FIELD: chemistry; processing solid carbon-containing materials, viz.: substandard fuel (coal inclusive), pulverized coal, carbon-containing materials whose standard processing is difficult due to considerable content of mineral residue or entrainment ; processing solid carbon-containing materials at high content of mineral residue and/or low calorific power. SUBSTANCE: starting- carbon-containing material moves through catalytically active packing excluding mixing of starting material with reaction products. Use of catalytically active packing provides for reduction of temperature of process which is important at low calorific power of carbon-containing material. Packing increases residence time of carbon-containing material in reaction volume simultaneously intensifying processes of heat- and mass-exchange, thus ensuring prompt heating and processing of solid carbon-containing materials at simultaneous gasification of gaseous reagents.
