NOISELESS CARTRIDGE AND METHOD FOR ITS RECONDITIONING Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

Abstract RU 2190181 C2

FIELD: ammunition, in particular, cartridges of fighting smoothbore weapon, sporting guns and other non-automatic and automatic small arms. SUBSTANCE: the cartridge has a cartridge case with a primer (primer cap) and a shot chamber, having a contraction in the front open part with a tapered section, powder propelling charge, shot and a piston provided with a centering device for the shot tail section and positioned between the powder propelling charge and the shot. The novelty is in the fact that the piston is built up of two concentric bodies of revolution- the central tapered component made of more solid material and the peripheral stepped tapered component made of less solid material. The bases of the tapered components are oriented towards the propelling charge. The cartridge case may be made of two parts interconnected by means of a detachable, in particular, threaded joint. The tapered section of contraction may be positioned in the entire length of the chamber, in particular, with a run-out by the piston length. It may be also made two-stepped: in the front part of the cartridge -with a larger angle of taper and on a smaller length. The centering device is preferably made in the form of a central cylindrical seat, in particular, in diameter, enveloping both tapered component of the piston. It is recommended to make the cartridge case and the central tapered component of titanium. The novelty is also in the sequence of cartridge reconditioning operations. The central tapered component is pressed of the piston wedged on the tapered section through the open end face of the cartridge at a simultaneous release of residual powder and primer gases, the peripheral component is pressed off, the cartridge case parts are detached, the piston parts are extracted, the primer is extracted and a new one is installed, the piston is reconditioned with the used of the "fired" central tapered component, a new shot and the reconditioned piston are installed, a new propelling charge is formed, the cartridge case parts are joined. The piston parts may be pressed off without replacement of the punch and without its reversal. EFFECT: enhanced technical and economic characteristics of the noiseless cartridge. 4 cl, 3 dwg
