FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: according to said method, non-cleaned exhaust gases from exhaust gas source are divided into at least two flows, first of which is directed into catalyst converter units and then is directed into ambient atmosphere. Flow rate of exhaust gases in flows directed into bypass channel is controlled to increase its velocity at outlet if channel by compression of flow which is then directed together with first flow of cleaned exhaust gases into ambient atmosphere. Velocity of first flow of cleaned exhaust gases is increased by compression of gas flow. Device has also housing with converter units, inlet and outlet channels communicating the housing, respectively, with exhaust gas source and with ambient atmosphere, bypass channel arranged inside housing. Bypass channel is connected at one side with inlet channel, and at other side it is coupled with ambient atmosphere. Bypass channel accommodates nozzle located at a side of outlet of bypass channel into ambient medium. Device has also flow governor placed in bypass channel. Outlet channel is provided with second nozzle arranged at outlet of outlet channel into ambient atmosphere. First and second nozzles are made in form of truncated cones. EFFECT: reduced cost of cleaning owing to discharge of part of non-cleaned exhaust gases into ambient atmosphere, increased speed of discharge of cleaned and non-cleaned exhaust gases and control of gas flow rates. 6 cl, 2 dwg
