METHOD OF AND SYSTEM FOR CLEANING OF EXHAUST GASES Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

Abstract RU 2184858 C1

FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to cleaning of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines from harmful substances. According to proposed method of exhaust gas cleaning, exhaust gases are divided into at least two flows. One of flows is directed into atmosphere without cleaning, and other are cleaned in converter units with control of flow rates of exhaust gases provided by measuring value of flow rate of exhaust gases in each flow, comparing values of flow rates of exhaust gases and changing resistance to flows to provide identical values of flow rates of exhaust gases in each flow equal to flow rate of exhaust gases in flow with minimum value of flow rate of exhaust gases. Degree of cleaning of exhaust gases in converter units of different flows is made different owing to use of different materials and(or) different number of converter units, and flow rate of exhaust gases in flows before directing the flows into ambient atmosphere is measured. Exhaust gas cleaning system has housing with converter units, inlet and outlet channels placing housing in communication, respectively, with exhaust gas source and with ambient atmosphere, bypass channel placed inside housing which is provided with at least one partition placed inside and dividing housing into chambers, each connected with inlet and outlet channels of housing. Bypass channel is formed by one of chambers. Converter units are arranged in all chambers, except bypass channel. System is furnished with at least one flow governor, guide surfaces, measuring units, comparator unit, indicator unit, control unit and drive, all units being inter connected by couplings. Flow governors are located at side of outlet channel in bypass channel and in all chambers accommodating converter units, except one featuring maximum resistance. Guide surfaces are made in bypass channel. Measuring units are installed in bypass channel and in chambers accommodating converter units to provided contact of measuring units with exhaust gases. Control unit is coupled with flow governors by drive. Number of measuring units is equal to number of chambers, including bypass channel. EFFECT: reduced cost of exhaust gas cleaning owing to discharge of part of non-cleaned exhaust gases into ambient atmosphere, control of flow rate of cleaned and noncleaned gases and selection of design of converter, including choice of converter material and volume (number) of units experimentally. 7 cl, 2 dwg
