FIELD: metallurgy; manufacture of thin bands from ferritic stainless steels. SUBSTANCE: band made from ferritic stainless steel is hardened in the course of continuous casting between two rolls with horizontal axes of rotation which are located near each other; these rolls are cooled from inside; they rotate in opposite directions; ferritic stainless steel contains: carbon, 0.012% max; manganese, , 1% max; silicon, 1% max; phosphorus, 0.040% max; sulfur, 0.03% max and chromium, from 16 to 18%. After casting, band is positively cooled or is left for natural cooling, thus excluding its presence in area where austenite changes to ferrite and carbides; then band is rolled at temperature from 600 C to Ms martensite transformation temperature; rolled band is left for cooling at maximum rate of 300 C/h to temperature of from 200 C to ambient temperature, after which band is annealed in enclosed space. Thin band is manufactured from ferritic stainless steel containing carbon not exceeding 0.012%; manganese not exceeding 1%; silicon not exceeding 1%; phosphorus not exceeding 0.040%; sulfur not exceeding 0.030% and chromium from 16 to 8% by the proposed method. EFFECT: possibility of producing steel band at high toughness and plasticity sufficient for unrolling the band, cutting its edges and cold plastic metal working avoiding such defects as fractures of band and cracks in its edges. 8 cl, 3 dwg, 2 tbl, 1 ex
