FIELD: testing technology. SUBSTANCE: method includes comparison of inductance of working electromagnetic coil and inductance of reference electromagnetic coil. Magnetizing unit and ferromagnetic material are connected to two different arms of electric bridge and frequency W1. is fed to magnetizing unit. Bridge is balanced and indication of electric voltage is recorded. Then frequency W2 (W2≫W1) is fed to magnetizing unit, bridge is balanced and readings at this frequency are recorded. Then, thickness of wall of ferromagnetic material is changed and dependence of electric voltage at frequencies W1 and W2 versus change of thickness of metal wall is plotted, first without application of mechanical stress and then in loaded state, after which ferromagnetic material is placed in corrosive medium and voltage at frequencies W1 and W2 is measured and reduction of thickness of wall of ferromagnetic material under test is calculated by definite U0(d). dependence.
