FIELD: measurement technology; devices for determination of dielectric permittivity and thickness of layer of liquid and solid specimens on surface of metal. SUBSTANCE: method consists in creating electromagnetic field in dielectric material under test and conducting substrate followed by recording the converter properties; then, microwave magnetic field of travelling surface wave is created above surface of dielectric-metal, type E in single-mode operation and attenuation constants αE1 and αE2 at two lengths of waves λE1 and λE2; relative dielectric permittivity of coat and its thickness are found from mathematical dependences found in the text.
