FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of synthesis of benzene from mixtures containing benzene and/or alkylbenzenes with increased content of sulfur-containing substances. Method involves hydrodealkylation of indicated compounds or their mixtures with partial recovery of nondealkylated component to stage of hydrodealkylation as recycle with feeding to indicated recycle of highly aromatic fraction with enhanced content of sulfur-containing substances, mainly 1.5 wt. -% by sulfur, not above, and with content of C6-C15- aromatic compounds 60%, not less. Feeding highly aromatic substances is carried out in amount where total content of sulfur-containing substance in outlet from hydrodelakylation reactor does not exceed admissible value determined by potential capacity of scheme for the further sulfur removal from end product.
