METHOD OF AND TOOL FOR MAKING HOLES INN TIES AND BEAMS Russian patent published in 2002 - IPC

FIELD: railway transport; mechanization of track facilities. SUBSTANCE: proposed method comes to the following: blank in which hole is to be made is clamped and then hollow tubular tools with sharp cutting edges are driven into blank. Wastes fill tool spaces. Having made a hole, tool is pulled out together with wastes which are then removed. When driving tool in, through passage of waste cores inside tapering passages of tools is provided with ring compression of core bases without their destruction and getting outside at following cycles. Tool for implementing the method is made in form of hollow tube with cylindrical surface from outside and inside and taper section forming cutting edge. This section is made from outer side of tube, inner space being made open for through passage and its surface behind cutting edge is provided with widening step of sharpened form whose inner size is smaller than corresponding size of cutting edge. Thanks to it deep in three-dimensional blanks of ties and beams can be made self-forcing of cores outside and, consequently, self-cleaning of tool space from wastes are provided.
