FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, namely processes for melting steel in oxygen converters.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of loading to bath metallic scrap; pouring cast iron; blowing with oxygen; adding lime and slag forming material. After 85 -90% of oxygen is consumed for blowing, lime is added. Lime consumption is determined according to expression Qcao = 0.0011 - Qoxyg + 850,46 x Nblp - 1557,56 x Ncc - 17,97 where Qoxyg - quantity of oxygen consumed before lime adding, m3/min; Nblp - nitrogen content in sample taken by means of apparatus for measuring parameters of melting during blowing process, %; Ncc - nitrogen content in sample taken according to converter charge,%; 0.0011, 850.46, 1557,56 and 17.97 - empiric coefficients.

EFFECT: enhanced strength of oxygen converter, possibility for providing desired content of nitrogen in metal.
