FIELD: measurement of average horizontal speed of current by means of ultrasonic beam for calculation of flow rate of river of considerable width. SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in radiation of ultrasonic beams along free transversal section selected for measurement of flow rate and measuring the distance of motion of twin ultrasonic receiving transducers located at some distance relative to each other; procedure is continued till output voltages of twin ultrasonic receiving transducers become equal. Twin ultrasonic receiving transducers are electrically connected with differential amplifiers for measuring the position at the moment when difference of their output voltages is equal to zero.
