FIELD: working of metallic products by means of electric arc discharge, possibly in metallurgy and different branches of machine engineering. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of placing electrode near article and forming between them closed arc discharge gap; applying toroidal magnetic field to gap and igniting discharge between article and electrode; exciting additional magnetic field normal relative to treated surface of article and continuously moving in direction of discharge motion inside toroidal magnetic field along the whole interelectrode space; increasing electric current of electric arc until achieving uniform distribution of elemental discharges along the whole length of electrode and along article surface embraced by electrode; using non-magnetic electrode; placing outside and inside toroidal magnetic field electromagnets with magnetic fields oriented normally relative to electrode and to article surface and uniformly distributed along electrode; supplying alternating three-phase electric current to electromagnets; connecting magnetic cores with common outer magnetic circuit.
