FIELD: industrial heat and power plants, namely layer type furnaces for burning solid fuel. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of feeding lumpy fuel to layer, drying it, igniting and burning fuel in filtering layer at supplying air in cross direction; discharging ashes and high-temperature flue gases; separating fuel and air by mutually parallel vertically oriented flows and burning fuel components in adjacent mutually opposite flows along the whole height of layer.
