FIELD: power engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for sealing fittings and valve operating at high pressures and temperature of coolants in heat and nuclear power stations and other devices operating at high parameters of working media. Proposed sealing device has housing with gland seal enclosing surface of rod installed for movement or surface of cover. Cover is installed on housing by means of split joint for compressing gland seal. The latter is made in form of series-mounted sealing rings and at least two metal disks installed from outside in parallel to diametric plane for engagement with end face surface of sealing rings over their entire area and contacting with surface of rod or cover in operating position of gland seal. Density of extreme sealing rings is either equal to or greater than density of other sealing rings. Extreme sealings rings are made flexible. At least one middle sealing ring features plastic deformation properties. Thickness of metal disk is chosen from equation t = (0.005 - 0.1)T where T is thickness of sealing ring.
