FIELD: manufacture of abrasive material on base of zirconium electrocorundum for rough-grinding abrasive tool, particularly manufacture of grinding grains for making tool. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of melting initial material, pouring melt into working space between adjacent plates mechanically joined to sections and arranged onto lateral lengthwise supports; cooling melt; separating solidified abrasive from plates and disintegrating it. Novelties are gravitation compression of plates in pack one to another at process of pouring and cooling; cooling abrasive together with plates until temperature no more than 100 C and separating abrasive from plates at releasing gravitation compression and realizing fan-shaped separation of plates. Crystallizer for performing the method includes at least one section of mutually adjacent plates mechanically joined one to another. Brackets are secured to upper portions of lateral ends of said plates. Said brackets are designed for engaging with lateral lengthwise supports in such a way that between adjacent plates there are slit-like spaces for melt. In order to provide gravitational compression, terminal plates of section are mutually joined by means of four-hinge braces whose mean link is provided with load gripping attachment. Lower part of said link has supporting zone for engaging with additional supporting stand. Thickness of brackets is less than that of plates. Crystallizer includes in addition elastic ropes for lifting. EFFECT: possibility for making abrasive grains with enhanced strength characteristics allowing to use them in tools for rough power grinding, improved strength of crystallizer plates, lowered labor and energy consumption for making grains. 9 cl, 4 dwg
