FIELD: friction materials. SUBSTANCE: friction product contains annular master form constructed from carbonized pitch and pyrocarbon and reinforced by bulk structure formed by fragments of chopped carbon fiber and pieces of carbon fiber bundles. The latter are partly made in the form of their fragments, number of bundle pieces and their fragments in master form increases in direction to surface over outside diameter and number of chopped carbon fiber fragments increases in direction to surface over inside diameter. Ratio of number of bundle pieces and their fragments to number of chopped carbon fiber fragments in master form varies from 4 to 1/4 in direction from surface over outside diameter to surface over inside diameter. Method includes: (i) transportation agent turbulent flow-assisted mixing of pitch with chopped carbon fiber fragments and carbon fiber bundle pieces; (ii) transportation agent flow-assisted sedimentation of mixture on filter element to form pressed packet; (iii) molding of product perform by compaction and simultaneous action of heat and pressure; (iv) annealing of perform; and (v) at least single impregnation of perform by pitch and pyrocarbon with stabilizing and compacting heat treatment. Prior to be mixed, bundle pieces are partly separated into bundle fragments and chopped carbon fiber fragments and mixture of chopped carbon fiber fragments, bundle fragments, and bundle pieces is subjected, upon mixing, to centrifugal separation in plain perpendicular to sedimentation direction.
