FIELD: secondary power supplies for electric arc furnaces. SUBSTANCE: converter has at least one transformer incorporating primary winding supplied with three-phase current and at least one secondary winding passing three-phase current from its output to rectifying facilities wherefrom DC voltage and current are supplied to load, mentioned rectifying facilities being provided with controlled semiconductor elements connected to each secondary winding. Rectifying facilities have circuit arrangement in the form of wheel of free-running clutch type that functions as wheel with free-running clutch and mentioned controlled semiconductor elements are triggered at firing (turn-on) angles actually varying so that reducing time of conducting state of main triggered semiconductor elements accordingly increases conducting state duration of circuit arrangement in the form of wheel of free-running clutch type, and vice versa, which makes it possible to feed load with actually DC active or reactive power irrespective of variations in load impedance. EFFECT: minimized reactive-power variations. 10 cl, 15 dwg
