FIELD: gas-oil industry, possibly processes for treatment of hydrocarbon gas at process of producing it or in plants, namely cooling hydrocarbon gas after additional compressors before further drying and preparing it for transporting. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of cooling before drying crude gas in air cooling apparatuses with several rows of heat exchange tubes having inlet and outlet headers; feeding gas to inlet header and discharging it from outlet header in the same direction; supplying cooling agent such as atmospheric air to intertube space in direction opposite to gas feed direction in such a way that non-uniformity of distribution of gas flows in headers compensate non-uniformity of heat transfer along height of heat exchange tubes. EFFECT: optimal cooling mode of hydrocarbon gas without formation of crystal hydrates in apparatus for air cooling. 3 dwg, 1 tbl
