FIELD: electromechanical engineering; automatic temperature monitoring and control and overtemperature protective systems for traction electrical machines such as those of locomotives. SUBSTANCE: device has control system incorporating first through fourth computing units as well as first and second comparison units. First computing unit is used to calculate amount of cooling air required at the moment for maintaining hottest-spot temperature of machine windings within desired limits and to determine end number of pairwise values of turn angle of fan impeller blade and fan speed. Second unit is designed to calculate fan power and efficiency for each pair of impeller-blade setting angle values and fan speed. Effective region and design speed of fan shaft and setting angle of fan impeller blades are calculated in third computing unit to ensure most economically efficient mode of fan operation. Fourth computing unit is intended to correct network characteristic and to specify position of fan effective point and setting angle of its impeller blades as well as its speed. First comparison unit serves to generate control action signal for independent control drive of fan and to change device over to emergency running conditions, if necessary. Control action signal for controllable reversible drive of blade operating mechanism of fan impeller blades is generated and device is changed over to emergency condition, if necessary, in second comparison unit. In this way cooling air feed is controlled in response to signal generated by control element of automatic temperature control. EFFECT: minimized power or diesel fuel requirement and minimal fan efficiency throughout entire range of cooling air feed variation. 3 dwg
