FIELD: medicine, virology, biotechnology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of attenuation of viruses. Method involves selection of candidates of live viral vaccines by selection of viral variants that do not bind with preparations of brain membrane receptors and involves mixing virus with amount of the brain membrane receptors containing excess of membrane receptors, centrifugation of indicated suspension to form supernatant, assay of residual viral infectivity in indicated supernatant and isolation of viral variant that do not bind with the membrane receptor preparation. Advantage of invention involves the enhancement of safety of attenuated viruses. EFFECT: improved method of virus attenuation. 7 cl, 17 tbl, 4 dwg, 24 ex
