FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in loading starting raw material including carbon-containing reducing material and ferric oxide- containing material into furnace provided with rotary hearth, reduction of starting material to solid reduced iron, carbonization of metallic iron in solid reduced iron by carbon component of carbon-containing reducing material, smelting of metallic iron and separation of slag components. Molten metallic iron is tapped outside from furnace due to inclination of hearth surface at angle of 3 to 30 deg. relative to horizontal plane. Molten metallic iron may be tapped from furnace due to separation of hearth into many parts in circumferential direction. Proposed method requires no cooling and excludes crystallization.
