SUBSTANCE: binder-free synthetic A-type zeolite is prepared by mixing kaolin with charcoal, treating mixture with sodium hydroxide solution, adding polyvinyl alcohol solution to form homogeneous plastic paste, which is granulated, dried, thermally activated to form amorphous granules, which are cooled and subjected to hydrothermal crystallization in alkali solution. Thus prepared zeolite is further steamed, washed with softened water, and dried. Adsorbent can be used in chemical and petrochemical industries, in heat and nuclear engineering, as ion-exchange material for removing metal cations and radionuclides from water currents.
