FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to developing, designing and operating of internal combustion piston engines with division of engine working volume into pressure and combustion chambers. According to proposed method, incompletely expanded medium from pressure chamber is directed into accumulating reservoir for using part of potential energy of medium in process of cylinder filling by returning it from accumulating reservoir into pressure chamber at filling stroke. Moreover, accumulated medium is cooled before delivering into pressure chamber. In proposed engine additional number of through ports is made in cylinder which are connected by main line with sealed accumulating reservoir arranged outside cylinder working volume. Said accumulating reservoir can be connected or disconnected from pressure chamber by means of valve installed in main line. EFFECT: improved engine power output. 3 cl, 3 dwg
