FIELD: chemotology of motor oils for selection of additives while developing new brands of motor oils and evaluating quality of oils in process of long-time storage. SUBSTANCE: technology includes taking weight of oil, injection of water, heating, centrifugation with subsequent determination of alkaline number and evaluation of hydrolytic stability of oil. Alkaline number of initial oil is found after weight-taking, 5.0% water is injected, oil is homogenized with water and mixture is heated at temperature of 90±2 C in the course of one hour, is centrifuged with separation factor 4000±40 and hydrolytic stability of oil is evaluated by dependence a.n1-a.n2≤Ka.n, where a.n1 and a.n2 are correspondingly values of alkaline number of initial oil and of oil after heating and centrifugation, Ka.n is criterion of HYDROLYTIC stability by alkaline number. EFFECT: simplified and reliable technology. 8 tbl
