FIELD: production of refractory materials. SUBSTANCE: method involves melting clay-containing material charged into furnace by portions in equal time intervals; cooling and cutting block. Clay-containing material is molten by supplying 150-190 V linear voltage per 1 m of melt between electrode axes. Each portions of charged clay-containing material comprises 2-6% by total weight of charged material. Method is used for obtaining synthetic corundum and other molten materials on the base of silica (mullite, baddeleyite corundum, magnesium aluminate spinel etc) by melting in electric arc furnaces of silica-containing materials used for manufacture of high-quality refractory materials. EFFECT: increased efficiency and reduced power consumption for block of silica-containing raw material in the process of producing molten refractory materials. 2 tbl
