FIELD: manufacture of refractory materials, namely processes for melting magnesium-containing raw material with carbonaceous additive in electric arc furnaces. SUBSTANCE: method provides production of periclase with carbon content more than 0.5%. Method comprises steps of charging magnesium-containing raw material and carbonaceous additive to electric arc furnace for their melting; then cooling and finishing block; adding carbonaceous additive in quantity (12-15)% of mass of magnesium-containing raw material; using carbonaceous additive with particle size (10-20) mm; performing melting process under charge layer in reducing mode. EFFECT: enhanced quality of periclase due to high stability to melt metals. 2 tbl
