FIELD: electrochemical methods of analysis, specifically, detection of iodine, for instance, in food-stuffs. SUBSTANCE: proposed way of determination of iodine includes ashing of specimen of examined substance and inversion-volt-ampere establishment of quantity of iodine which consists in repeating electrochemical concentration of examined substance on surface of working electrode from base electrolyte by supply of electric potentials to it with subsequent recording of volt-ampere curves and determination of quantity of iodine by height of peak on them before and after injection of standard with allowance for height of peak of base electrolyte. Base electrolyte contains mercury nitrate, potassium chloride and hydrochloric acid. First negative potential is fed to electrode, then specimen of examined substance is injected into base electrolyte. For repeat determination specimen of examined substance with standard is injected. Later positive potential under +150 mV is fed to electrode with rotation of the latter. Then scanning of potential from -200 to -1200 mV with rate of 10-100 mV/s is performed. After determination of iodine concentration positive and negative potentials are fed to working electrode for its clearing in turn.
