FIELD: analytical electrochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method is based on preliminary application of metallic quicksilver onto surface of hard electrode in form of thin film and following use of said electrode for electrochemical detection of iodine. Detection of iodine is performed with electrochemical sedimentation on quicksilver film of iodine-including products from analyzed solution, which is an analyzed substance dissolved in background electrolyte, and electrochemical solution of previously precipitated iodine-including products. Iodine concentration is determined from value of cathode current of electrochemical solution of iodine-including products. Application of metallic quicksilver onto surface of hard electrode is performed by electrochemical precipitation of quicksilver from working solution containing quicksilver salt in presence of iodine ions. Quicksilver film formed in such a way is so thin, that allows at stage of electrochemical solution of precipitated iodine-containing products the use of high speeds of potential development (more than 0.1 V/s) for increasing sensitivity of measurements and decreasing analysis time.
