FIELD: powder metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of production of porous articles from composite materials by method of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis which can be expediently used for producing filtering materials. Proposed method of production of porous material includes preparation of reaction mixture containing titanium powder, soot and tetrasodium borate Na2B4O7•10H2O as gasifying addition, pressing of article and initiating self-propagating high-temperature synthesis process. Reaction mixture is used containing components in the following ratio, mass %: titanium powder 57.0-65.0; soot 33.5-42.5; tetrasodium borate 0.5- 1.5. Process of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis is initiated by supplying alternating current at both end faces to formable article in atmospheric medium. Reaction of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis is carried out to increase volume of obtained article in radial direction. Supply of alternating current and reaction of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis are performed at vertical prepressing of 5.0-10.0 kPa.
