FIELD: archeology and mechanical engineering, in particular, cleaning of iron articles from corrosion. SUBSTANCE: method involves providing preliminary cleaning of iron articles followed by copper plating; subjecting articles to etching with sulfuric acid solution used in an amount of 50-200 g/l, into which sodium chloride is added in an amount of 5-10 g/l, or with 15- 20%-solution of hydrochloric acid with urotropin added in an amount of 1 wt%. EFFECT: reduced labor intensity, reduced consumption of reactant and decreased removal of basic metal.
