FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves cleaning an archaeological object, hydrothermal treatment of the object in a diluted alkaline solution at temperature of 100-250°C and pressure of 10-30 atm for at least 1 hour, washing until complete removal of chloride ions and drying, followed by depositing a protective coating. After washing, presence of chloride ions in the prepared archaeological object is inspected.
EFFECT: invention improves preservation of archaeological finds made from iron and alloys thereof and information contained therein, while simplifying and reducing the cost of the method.
