FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry of low-molecular organic compounds, namely to synthesis of five- membered acetal (formal) of glycerol α-monochlorohydrin that can be used as solvent of polymers or as reagent for preparing other low-molecular or high-molecular compounds. Invention relates to preparing 4-chloromethyl-1,3- dioxalane without formation of isomer (5-chloro-1,3-dioxalane) with simultaneous reducing amount of additional solvent. Method involves step-by-step addition of glycerol epichlorohydrin - formaldehyde in the mole ratio from 1:1 to 1:1.05 to mixture of paraform with water containing 0.5- 1.0% of sulfuric acid at stirring and heating to temperature 95-98 C up to formation of homogenous medium followed by azeotropic distillation off of water with 4-chloromethyl-1,3-dioxalane at temperature 96 C, decantation of water and drying 4-chloromethyl-1,3-dioxalane by conventional methods. Large-scale production of 4-chloromethyl-1,3- dioxalane allows preparing protein albumin from dairy, cheese or curd whey that is equivalent to gain of protein mass equal to proteins of hen eggs up to 200 mln eggs. Using 4-chloromethyl-1,3-dioxalane is perspective as solvent of polymers, for example, instead widely known and highly toxic 1,2-dichloroethane and as reagent also.
