FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, steel melting in converter with preliminary preparation of hot metal in hot-metal ladle car. SUBSTANCE: method of steel melting in converter incorporates steps of hot metal preparation, including its desulfurization with the help of addition of reagents in the form of magnesium and lime, supply of metal charge comprising hot metal and solid metalliferous materials to converter, supply of slag-forming materials, blowing of melt with oxygen through oxygen lance, determination of chemical composition of hot metal and melt. Relationship in metal charge of hot metal relative to solid metalliferous materials is established depending upon the following: M/m = K•CaO•(1+Mg)/S, where M is mass of hot metal poured into converter, t; m is mass of solid metalliferous materials supplied to converter, t; Mg is value of reagent in the form of magnesium added to hot metal during its preparation for steel melting in converter, fraction; CaO is value of reagent in the form of lime added to hot metal while preparing hot metal for steel melting in converter, fraction; S is content of sulfur in hot metal being poured to converter, %; K is empirical factor equal to 0.000028-0.0034; 1/(1+%). Steel scrap, cast mixture of hot metal and materials containing ferric oxides, or steel scrap and cast mixture of hot metal and materials containing ferric oxides can be used as solid metalliferous materials.
