FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed decelerator designed for mounting in exhaust system of vehicle powered by internal combustion engine contains at least one valve furnished with movable gate and gate control cylinder including movable piston with rod connected with said movable gate and at least one balancing device for equalizing backpressure created when said movable gate acts on gases. Balancing device is set into action when movable gate is closed, starting from definite threshold backpressure value. When backpressure reaches said threshold value, balancing device opens movable gate to 1 step of reset into open position to provide corresponding flow rate of exhaust gases to control backpressure irrespective of engine operating conditions. Balancing device is built into control cylinder being placed movable piston and cylinder rod. Rod is made with possibility of travel through C′ stroke relative to movable piston. C′ travel corresponds to 1 stop step of reset in to open position and it is adjusted by at least one control calibrated spring located between said movable piston and rod. EFFECT: provision of constant and maximum speed deceleration power irrespective of engine operating conditions. 10 cl, 5 dwg
