APPARATUS FOR GRINDING AND POLISHING RODS Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: machine engineering, possibly manufacture of machine tools for removing allowances, for grinding and polishing rods of hard alloys not suitable for working by cutting process. SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes grinding head having working chamber mounted vertically on platform with possibility of reciprocation motion. Working chamber is made of magnetic material and it is provided in upper portion with piston of magnetic material. Said piston is joined through lever with rod of pneumatic cylinder supporting vibrator on its end. Collet chucks are used for gripping rod. One collet chuck has rotation drive; another collet chuck has mechanism for raising chuck and for tensioning rod. Inside working chamber coaxially relative to piston sleeve of non-magnetic material is arranged; said sleeve is embraced by means of electromagnet and it is filled with ferromagnetic abrasive powder. Platform is joined with carriage through rubber or spring shock absorbers. Combined action of mechanical pressure, vibration and magnetic field upon surface of rod provides intensified removal of metal from rod surface of hard alloys.
