FIELD: radio communication systems. SUBSTANCE: system has mobile device and a number of base stations. Mobile device identifies base stations residing in geographical area specified by mobile device location. This is made by transmitting one or more request messages and receiving response information transferred by responding base stations. Then mobile device selects one of set of mobile stations for using it. Each base station functions to receive at least one of request messages and transmits information to mobile device in response to at least one message received. Mobile device detects data on synchronization from response information and uses it to establish communications with chosen base station. EFFECT: improved design of unmatched frequency hopping cellular system and mobile device used in this system. 5 cl, 8 dwg
