FIELD: mobile communications; asynchronous code-division multiple access mobile communication systems.
SUBSTANCE: plurality of mobile stations measure relative time difference between different pairs of base stations, and measurement results are saved in base stations. Original base station sends list of adjacent cells to mobile station in its message for estimating relative time difference between original base station and each of base stations in list of adjacent cells. Each listed base station can support table of relative time difference estimates that can be continuously updated according to messages received from mobile station. Then base stations can send records from this table to mobile station in message of list of adjacent cells. Base stations receive information about relative sync signal differences. So, when mobile station initiates search of candidate base station cell, it has already estimate of timing of this base station compared with its original base station. Estimates of relative time difference can be compared with respective time differences measured by mobile station. Results of this comparison can be used for computing delay of signal propagation between second mobile station and various base stations to locate position of second base station.
EFFECT: enhanced speed of search.
