SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method of control and monitoring of internal combustion engine which at least under one mode of operation operates on lean fuel mixture at least one value is determined characterizing pressure on accelerator pedal and one value characterizing engine shaft speed. At least under one mode of operation of engine on approximately stoichiometric or enriched fuel mixture and/or operation at limited delivery of air is provided and in this case operation of engine is evaluated on bases of at least one of its operating parameters. Device for implementing the proposed method contains control unit which serves for determining at least one value characterizing pressure on accelerator pedal and one value characterizing engine shaft speed. At least under one mode, operation of engine on approximately stoichiometric or enriched fuel mixture is permitted and/or only with limited delivery of air. Control unit contains means which monitor operation of internal combustion engine basing of at least one of its operating parameters.
