FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method, internal combustion engine operates at least at one mode on leaned fuel mixture. Depending on preset value, amount of injected fuel is determined and duration of injection is found and signal is generated corresponding to said duration of injection. Basing on one of said values actual torque in internal combustion engine is found and compared with maximum tolerable torque and, if actual torque exceeds maximum tolerable torque, failure is initiated. Value characterizing concentration of oxygen in exhaust gases of internal combustion engine is checked for exceeding preset value and, if measured value does not exceed preset threshold value, failure is initiated.
EFFECT: provision of checking operation of engine at high degree of reliability.
