FIELD: powder metallurgy; cutting tools for high-speed cutting. SUBSTANCE: proposed article is made from high-speed steel at high heat resistance and toughness by powder metallurgy method. Proposed method includes spraying of steel melt by nitrogen, hot iso- static molding of powder and hot deformation. Composition of article thus made is as follows, mass-%: carbon, 1.51-2.5; silicon, up to 0.8; manganese, up to 1.5; chromium, 3.5-4.5; tungsten, 13.3-15.3; molybdenum, 2.0-3.0; vanadium, 4.5-6.9; cobalt, 10.05-12.0; sulfur, up to 0.52; oxygen, 0.01 max; accompanying elements, technological admixtures and iron being the remainder; difference in content of manganese and sulfur (Mn-S) is no less than 0.19; ratio of tungsten and molybdenum contents is 5.2-6.5 and content of cobalt does not exceed 70% of total content of tungsten and molybdenum.
