FIELD: electrochemistry and electrical engineering; lead-acid storage battery manufacture. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes filling batteries with electrolyte, grouping them, mounting in tanks which are filled with cooling liquid, and forming with dc and/or pulse current after settling down, current being supplied in four stages. During first stage current that does not exceed 0.02 of battery rated current Cr is first passed through battery for 5 to 20 minutes and then it is raised within 0.3 to 1.5 hours to 0,3-0,7 Cr. During second stage current of 0,3-0,7 Cr is passed through batteries for 0.5 to 3 hours. During third stage current is reduced to 0,1-0,2 Cr within 0.5 to 2 hours, and finally during fourth stage batteries are additionally formed with current of 0,1-0,2 Cr. for 5 to 10 hours. Total time of battery forming process is 12 to 16 hours irrespective of battery type. During battery forming highly active form β-PbO2 is obtained across cathode. EFFECT: reduced time of heavy-current forming of batteries under optimal conditions. 1 cl, 12 dwg, 1 tbl, 4 ex
