FIELD: water treatment. SUBSTANCE: the invention presents a product for water treatment and a method. The product for a water treatment represents a material composed of particulates and having specific area of surface equal at least to 1.0 m2/g, or an item produced by binding of such material consisting of particulates, and having an insoluble coating made of ferric iron hydrated oxide. It is preferable that the material should consist of particulates made of a material based on aluminum oxide. The product is effective at water treatment for removal of organic substances, cations or anions, especially of As, Se or F.
