FIELD: protection of fighting vehicles, transport facilities and individual life-saving appliances for protection against armor-piercing and hard-core shells, grenades, mines, bullets and fragments. SUBSTANCE: proposed multi-layer inertial protection includes at least two rows of protective components secured at spaced relation between rows or in holders so that they should tear off holders at action of destruction weapons. Protective components are mounted in such way that ratio of mass of individual component to its ability to withstand piercing action of destructive factor rises from first row towards each subsequent row and/or clearance between rows increases beginning with clearance between first and second rows. Holder may be made in form of sheet. Protective components of one or several rows may be multi-layer in design. Proposed inertial protection may include more than three rows of protective components and flexible gaskets may be laid in clearances between rows begging with clearance between third and fourth rows. EFFECT: improved protective properties and reduced mass. 5 cl, 3 dwg
