FIELD: underwater acoustics. SUBSTANCE: invention can find use to control depth and rate of dive (ascension) of underwater object, to set azimuthal direction of movement of object and to determine its space coordinates. Salient feature of invention lies in employment of at least two under water sound beacons positioned in symmetry with regard to underwater base of object which are used to set azimuthal direction controlled by zero signal of fiber-optical direction finder coming in the form of source of coherent light and photodetector optically matched with fiber object and reference coils. Depth and rate of ascension (dive) in process of ascension or dive of underwater object are controlled correspondingly by number and frequency of pulses of photocurrent. EFFECT: simplified design of sensitive element of direction finder that enhances maneuverability of underwater object. 4 cl, 3 dwg
