FIELD: cellular communication systems. SUBSTANCE: in the process file bearing fragments of digital geographical map of terrain incorporating coordinates and characteristics of base stations installed in cells and geographical coordinates of cell boundaries is pre-entered in electronic form and in the course of radio communications data on location of respective mobile station are determined by means of satellite locating system receiver built in mobile station and transferred through base station to cellular communication system control center; file bearing digital geographical map fragment incorporating coordinates and characteristics of base station of cell wherein given mobile station resides and of adjacent cells with coordinates of their boundaries is conveyed from cellular communication system control center through respective base station to mobile station; then current data on its location are compared with coordinates of cell boundaries in mobile station.
