SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for preparing 4-methyl-5-formylthiazole by oxidation of 4-methyl-5-(2- hydroxyethyl)-thiazole with chrome oxide or inorganic bichromates an aqueous solution in the presence of sulfuric acid. Oxidation is carried out in two-phase system water organic solvent at temperature 20-50 C. Diethyl ether, benzene, chloroform and methylene chloride are used as an organic solvent.
