FIELD: petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: when carrying out fluidized-bed catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon-containing feedstock, jet of the latter is injected mainly in transverse direction into catalyst particle bed flow above injection point located on the border of reaction products/catalyst separation zone or outside separation zone. Catalyst and hydrocarbon particles from injection point get into separation zone in essentially horizontal direction. Separation zone above injection point has essentially open space and that below injection point is open-spaced, whereas average catalyst density is less than 80 kg/cu.m. Individual catalyst particles are collected in collection zone below injection point and sedimentation distances in separation zone between injection point and collection zone is maintained equal to at least 1.5 m, catalyst density in collection zone being at least 240 kg/cu.m. Ascending vapors and entrained catalyst particles from essentially open space above injection point are collected and passed into inertial separator, wherein entrained catalyst is separated from ascending vapors to form separated vapor and catalyst streams. Hydrocarbons from bottom part of separation zone and from separated vapor stream are recovered. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency. 10 cl, 7 dwg
