FIELD: navigation and traffic control. SUBSTANCE: invention is related to technique finding location of vehicle. In correspondence with method signals of satellite global positioning system are periodically received by aboard GPS receiver in process of movement of vehicle en route, they are processed by standard solution of navigation equations, geographical coordinates of vehicle are brought out and position of vehicle is established relative to reference points with the aid of fragment of map of locality along which route of movement of vehicle is laid. Additional digital processing is conducted with signals processed by solution of navigation equations by conversion of geographical coordinates to conventional coordinates of motor road atlas. Conventional coordinates present sequence of following search parameters: number of volume of atlas, number of page in atlas, number of conditional square of search and indices of cell in grid of conditional square of search. Above-mentioned sequence is displayed on screen of aboard indicator, fragment of map of locality corresponding to displayed sequence is found in motor road atlas and used to establish position of vehicle. EFFECT: reduced cost of aboard hardware, overcoming of limitation on permissible accuracy of determination of geographical coordinates, possibility of usage existing maps and software. 5 cl, 4 dwg _
